The Central Florida Zoo's Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation (OCIC) is an offsite center devoted to the advancement and care for indigo snakes. OCIC is looking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks and projects.  Located in the Cassia community in east Lake County (just down the road from Camp Boggy Creek, off SR 44), this snake conservation center has a selection of opportunities from horticulture, landscape, small carpentry projects, general cleaning and housekeeping, and some indigo snake husbandry and enrichment work. 

Training Sessions:

If accepted as an Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation volunteer, an initial volunteer orientation is required prior to beinning volunteer service. Successful completion of an on-the-job training and introductory period is also required before full acceptance into the position.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must commit to one shift per week for at least six months
  • Shift times are flexible from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
  • Participate in volunteer orientation
  • Successfully complete introductory period
  • Pay a $25.00 training fee for manual and uniform shirt
  • Abide by policies in the Volunteer Handbook
